PURPOSE:To provide a non-machined surface and a treated surface, having good surface quality, by a method wherein a sheetform insulating member is previously laminated on the non-machined surface, where no machining is applied, of a workpiece, and finish machining is effected as an electrolytic product is intermittently removed. CONSTITUTION:Before starting of finish machining, an insulating member 25 is previously laminated on a non-machined surface 2b of a workpiece 2, and an electrode is positioned facing a machined surface 2a. In a state to be immersed in machined liquid 28 in a machining tank 15, a pulse current is fed in a machining gap 18 from a source device 8 by means of a control signal from a machining condition control part 10 to perform electric discharge machining. After a given pulse current is fed one or two times, a motor 19 is driven to raise the electrode 4. An electrode surface 4a is separated from a machined surface 2a, and an electrolytic product is removed together with the machining liquid 28 through the motion of a solenoid valve 29 of an electrolytic filtering device 14. This constitution prevents sagging of a boundary part between a nonmachined surface and a machined surface, and enables provision of a non- machined surface and a machined surface, having excellent surface quality, without machining a non-machined surface.
