PURPOSE:To shorten cooling time and also to anneal a metal material without any damage to brightness by after charging the metal material to be annealed into the vacuum vessel, heating and annealing, filling up inert gas into a vacuum vessel and forcedly cooling the vessel from outside. CONSTITUTION:The vacuum vessel 3 is constituted of a carriage 2 arranging a vacuum valve 1 and a hood 3. The material to be annealed (for example, flat copper wire wound round a bobbin 6) is piled on the carriage 2 in this vacuum vessel 4 and the vacuum vessel 4 is evacuated. The vacuum vessel 4 is charged into the annealing furnace and heated and annealed. Next, after inert gas of N2, etc., is filled up from the vacuum valve 1, the forced cooling is executed from upper side of the vacuum vessel 4 by showering of cooling water 7, etc. By this method, the metal material can be annealed without any damage to the brightness.
