PURPOSE:To control engine output arbitrarily and remarkably without requiring additional power by communicating an operating spaces a reaction chamber and a buffer chamber through check valves and arranging gate valves in respective communication paths and inlets/outlets of respective buffer chambers. CONSTITUTION:A stirling engine comprises operating spaces 4, 5, a reaction chamber 6 and two buffer chambers 8 for regulating average pressure. Respective chambers are communicated through check valves 20-22, and gate valves 23-26, 30 are arranged at inlets/outlets of respective buffer chambers 8. Average pressure of the operating spaces 4, 5 and the reaction chamber 6 is regulated through control of respective gate valves so as to control output. Consequently, engine output can be controlled arbitrarily remarkably without requiring additional power.
