PURPOSE:To obtain a high-temperature superconductor, containing a compound of a group IIIa element, group IIa element and one or more of Mn and Cr or two or more of Mn, Cr and Cu and capable of forming thin films and wires and having a high critical current density and high critical transition temperature. CONSTITUTION:A superconductor of this invention consists of a compound expressed by the formula (Sc, Y, Pr, Nd, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb or Lu is especially preferably used as A; B is especially preferably Ba or Sr; the value of x is preferably within the range of 0.01<=x<=0.5; combination of one or more of Mn and Cr or two or more of Mn, Cr and Cu is used as M). The above- mentioned constitution is used to provide the superconductor of this invention having increased strain of crystal lattices and critical transition temperature exceeding 77.3 deg.K which is the boiling point of liquid nitrogen. Furthermore the afore-mentioned superconductor has stabilized superconductivity by inducing magnetic moment and exhibits a high value of critical current density with hardly any breakage by magnetic fields.
