PURPOSE:To obtain a flat ceramic article having high dimensional accuracy and useful as a top of a chemical laboratory desk, preventing the generation of cracks, by forming a thin plastic plate with pottery body, pressing the formed plate against a specific mold and firing the product. CONSTITUTION:A mold for forming a top plate 2 is produced by placing an inner mold 12 made of water-absorbing material such as CaSiO3, a separable outer mold 13 having a size corrected with drying shrinkage in burning of the body and a frame mold 14 for forming a recess 6 and a ridge 7 on the upper surface 11 of a lower table 10 made of a material similar to that of the inner mold 12. A pottery body containing >=50wt.% of plastic clay is formed into a thin plastic plate 15 of several mm thick, placed on the upper surface of the mold for forming a top plate 2 and pressed with trowel, etc., to obtain a formed article 16 having a recess 8 and a circumferential wall 17 on the upper surface 11 of the lower table. The formed article 16 is dried and hardened, shifted by pulling a sheet 19 to release the outer mold 13, positioned again on the lower table 10 and burned at about 1,200 deg.C in an electric oven, etc., to obtain bisque. The bisque is glazed at about 1,100 deg.C. |
