PURPOSE:To reproduce data information recorded in an ID area by forming data tracks and ID tracks alternately and adjacently, forming rugged bits recording ID information on a part or all of the ID tracks and forming groove-like groups on the residual ID tracks. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 1 obtained by forming the data tracks 8 and the ID tracks 10 alternately and adjacently, previously forming the rugged bits 5 recording the ID information in a part or all of the ID tracks and forming the groove-like groups 3 on the residual ID tracks forming no rugged bits 5. The data tracks 8 are tracks formed by land parts 9 between the groups 3 or between the rugged bits 5 of the adjacent tracks and controlled by a tracking control means so that a main beam 6 is always radiated. On the other hand, the ID information is detected by an ID information detecting means on the basis of a change in the quantity of reflected light of subbeams 7. Consequently, the data information can be recorded also in the ID areas 4 and easily reproduced.
