PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for bringing into contact with steam or catalyst and consequently simplify the structure of a press tool and enhance the productivity by a method wherein the thickness of a foam sheet is reduced by pressing the softened foam sheet. CONSTITUTION:An open-cell foam sheet is impregnated with polyisocyanate. In this case, the open-cell foam sheet means an open-cell foam sheet made of thermoplastic such as polyethylene, polypropylene or the like. In addition, the used polyisocyanate has at least two free isocyanate radicals in one molecule. Organic solvent incorporated in the polyisocyanate-impregnated foam sheet is removed under normal temperature or by heating for drying. The polyisocyanate incorporated in the foam sheet is fully cured by coming into contact with moisture in atmosphere. Thus, the foam sheet is heated and at the same time pressed into the desired shape. The reduction ratio of thickness lies normally within the range of 10-90 %.
