PURPOSE:To execute the record having no lacking part even if an original is longer than a regular length by controlling a read means and a means to measure the length of an original so as to set the length of the original at a value generated by subtracting a read length of the original from the measured length of it. CONSTITUTION:An original 8 is read from its tip end (a) to its tail end (f). Such a preliminarily determined distance as to decide the completion of the divided readings from the original is placed between positions (a) and (c) and between positions (b) and (e). Positions (a) and (b) and those (b) and (d) are distant for a preliminarily determined length enough to read the original. The length of the original starts to be measured from the position (a), and after the position (c) is reached, the image on the original from the position (a) to the position (b) is read. The original-length being measured is modified to be the length from the position (b), thereafter when the position (e) is reached, from the position (b) to the position (d) is read, then, the original length being measured is modified to be the length from the position (d). Subsequently, after the tail end (f) is detected, from the position (d) to the position (f) is read. In such a way, the image on the original is transmitted in three divisions: from (a) to (b), from (b) to (d), and from (d) to (f).
