PURPOSE:To easily and compactly form a scanning system and to miniaturize the equipment by placing stimulable phosphor sheets on a turntable, and executing the main scanning with stimulating rays radiated on the sheets by the in- plane rotation of the turntable. CONSTITUTION:On the turntable 2, the stimulable phosphor sheets 1a-1d are placed, rotated in the direction of arrow A at a fixed speed, and at the same time moved straight in the direction of arrow B. A light source 3 irradiates the sheets 1a-1d with a laser beam as stimulating rays, and the accelerated luminous light generated by the sheets 1a-1d is received by a photoelectric conversion means 6 via a half mirror 5, where the light is converted to an electrical signal. A cut-off filter 7 to pass only the stimulated luminescence is inserted between the mirror 5 and the means 6. The sheets 1a-1d has already been furnished in the image picking-up by a radiation image pickup part (not shown in the figure), and by placing them on the turnable 2 and by reading them therein, the image information stored in them can be obtained.
