PURPOSE:To prevent the unequal use of developing devices and the ununiformity of toner reduction, by switching the selection among plural color developing units to equally use respective color developing units as long as color developing units of the same color are set. CONSTITUTION:Plural color developing units can be set and are selectively used to form an image. Plural attachable and detachable color developing units 5 and 6, detecting means 47 and 48 which detect colors of toner, a selecting means which selects color developing units, an operating means which designates color developing units, and a discriminating means which discriminates whether color developing units of the same color are set or not by detection results of detecting means are provided. If the discriminating means discriminates that color developing units of the same color are set, selection of the selecting means is automatically switched in accordance with such prescribed system that developing units 5 and 6 are equally used. Thus, the unequal use of developing devices is relaxed and the feeling of use of an image forming device is improved.
