PURPOSE:To secure a rotary internal combustion engine that is high in thermal efficiency and low in noise and friction by coupling a compressor and an expander together, which are constituted each so as to cause a male rotor and a female rotor to be rotated in the opposite direction synchronously in a noncontact state with each other. CONSTITUTION:A compressor C and an expander E are coupled together by a parallel Z-axis, while each is constituted of a male rotor 1 with a rotating blade 2 and a female rotor 5 with a cavity 7 where this blade 2 is fitted in, and they rotate in the opposite direction synchronously in a noncontact state with each other in keeping a slight clearance intact. The gaseous body inhaled into an operating chamber 8 of the compressor C is compressed with the volumetric reduction of this operating chamber 8, discharged into a rotary hollow body 9, and it flows into the operating chamber 8 of the expander E. When an air-fuel mixture inside the operating chamber 8 is ignited into combustion by a speak plug 16 just before interconnection between an on-off port 10 and a connecting port 12 of the expander E is intercepted, it is expandable up to almost atmospheric pressure by volumetric expansion in the operating chamber 8 so that high thermal efficiency is securable. In addition, since there is no direct contact between both male and female rotors, low noise and low friction both are realizable.
