PURPOSE:To obtain an epoxy resin composition which can give excellent storage stability, wet-heat resistance and resistance to post-impact compression, essentially consisting of two specified epoxy resins, a specified phenolic compound and a specified curing agent. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin composition for prepregs, essentially consisting of a bifunctional epoxy resin (A) (e.g., bisphenol A epoxy resin), a trifunctional epoxy resin (B) (e.g., N,N,O-triglycidyl-4-amino-m-cresol), a phenolic compound (C) of the formula (wherein X1-X8, R1 and R2 are each H or CH3) [e.g., bis-(3,5- dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)methane] and at least one curing agent (D) selected from among dicyandiamide, 2,6-xylenylbiguanide, o-tolylbiguanide, diphenylguanidine, etc. This composition has excellent storage stability, wet-heat resistance and resistance to post-impact compression, and a composite material obtained from this composition can be used in automobiles, general industrial products as well as aircrafts.
