PURPOSE:To prevent a read line from being overlapped even if a scanner is carelessly separated by measuring the time required for continuously abutting the scanner upon a precedently read line, outputting an overlapped output when the measured time is short and intending the overlapped output in case of long measuring time. CONSTITUTION:When the scanner is continuously abutted upon the same line and the previously fixed prescribed time Tc has passed, a signal TUP is outputted from a line existence establishing means 22 and sets up the output Q of a SR flip flop (FF) 26 through an AND gate 25. When the output of the FF 26 becomes true, the output is transmitted to an output control part 19 through an OR gate 23 and the output control part 19 outputs (ROUT) its input (RLINE). On the other hand, an original replacement detecting means 20 detects the replacement of an original, and hen the original is replaced, erases the contents stored in a recognizing line storing means 17 and resets the FF 26. Even if the scanner is carelessly separated after reading out respective lines of the original, the already read lines are not overlapped.
