PURPOSE:To certainly detect the abnormality such as a doze stage, by irradiating the head of a person being an object to be examined with near infrared rays and discriminating abnormality on the basis of the change quantity of near infrared rays generated by the absorption with the object to be examined. CONSTITUTION:Near infrared rays are emitted to the head 11 of a driver being an object to be examined from a light emitting part 12 and pass through the head 11 to be applied to a light receiving part 12. The near infrared rays emitted from the light emitting part 12 is absorbed corresponding to the amount of hemoglobin bonded to the oxygen present in the head 11 being the object to be examined. Therefore, the light receiving part 13 receives the remaining near infrared rays absorbed by the head 11 being the object to be examined. A predetermined reference value is stored in an operation part 17 with respect to such a case that the head 11 is normal and this first reference value is compared with the value of the actually obtained signal from an analogue/digital converter 16 and, when said value exceeds the first present reference value, abnormality such as a doze state is discriminated and an alarm circuit 18 is driven to indicate the abnormal state.
