Aqueous cleaner compositions containing an alkali metal halogenite, for example, NaClO2; a stabilizable colorant; and a stabilizing amount of a stabilizer compound which is an ammonium hydroxide. The preferred embodiment further includes an anionic or anionic fluorocarbon surfactant.
