PURPOSE:To produce with good productivity a polyethylene having a high tension when melted and a high rate of expansion when processed, by (co) polymerizing ethylene in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst comprising a combination of a specific catalyst component with an organic aluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:A metal enolate (A) (e.g., nickel acetylacetonate), an organic magnesium compound (B) (e.g., diethylmagnesium), an oxygen-containing organic compound of titanium (C) (e.g., titanium tetraethoxide), and an organic aluminum halide compound (D) (e.g., ethylaluminum dichloride) are reacted. The catalyst component comprising the resulting reaction product, and a catalyst component selected from organic aluminum compounds (e.g., triethylaluminum) are combined to prepare a Ziegler catalyst. Ethylene alone or ethylene and an alpha-olefin are polymerized in the presence of the catalyst to produce a polyethylene. |
