OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-performance optical recording medium having uniform quality and good reproducibility by using a target which is a multielement alloy as a base material and forming a recording layer on a substrate by a sputtering method. CONSTITUTION:The multielement alloy target is used as the target for sputtering. The compd. target having a stoichiometrical compsn. meeting an alloy film on a compd. compsn. such as, characteristic Bi2Te3 or Sb2Te3 is used as the target in the case of forming said alloy film. There are a powder- sintered target and a melt-molded target to manufacture said alloy target, of which the melt-molded target is better in terms of the compsn. homogeneity. The high-performance recording film having the uniform quality and good reproducibility is obtd. without causing a solid soln. segregation in part of the constituting elements, if the above-mentioned target is used.
