PURPOSE:To prevent a picker from striking a structure by providing a protruding part in a shift instruction plate to designate a position to which a medium is carried, used as a rotation prohibited area. CONSTITUTION:An optical disk reading device is constituted of an upper and a lower cartridge container boxes 2, 3 and a reading head 1, located between those, and a horizontal X-table 7-2 and a Y-table 8-1, standing vertically from this are provided as being opposed to the container boxes 2, 3. Besides, the picker 5 to take in and out the medium 2-1 in the container box is provided at a screw 7-3 to support the Y-table 8-1, but the protruding parts 9-1-3, 9-2-3 used as the rotation prohibited area are provided so that the picker 5 does not strike container box even if it is rotationally moved in the direction to Z axis. Namely, an X axis motor 6-1, a Y axis motor 6-2 and a Z axis motor 6-3 are rotated respectively by decoding a shift address by a control part, provided in another circuit, but at such a time, the rotation of the motor 6-3 is stopped in the prohibited area by using the motors 6-1, 6-2, a photoelectric sensors 9-1-30, 9-2-30 and an AND circuit 11-1.
