PURPOSE:To record a still picture easily and in a short time by providing a first mode to record a dynamic picture signal by using one rotary head, and a second mode to record a still picture signal by using, at least two rotary heads simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:In a case that the dynamic picture signal is recorded, the dynamic picture signal of one field portion is recorded in the order of the head HA- HB-HC-HD-HA by connecting a switch 16 in the order of A-B-C-D-A for every one field. In the case that the digital still picture signal is recorded, the switch 15 is connected to a side B, and the connection of the switches 16-18 are switched in the order of A-B-C-D at timings shifted by 4/3 field to each other and for every one field, and thus, the recording of the digital signal is carried forward by the heads HA-HD.
