PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a substitute track and to make all tracks usable as the tracks for storage by writing data into a part of a defective track where no defect is present. CONSTITUTION:A defective position in a track as indicated by a track signal (h) is stored with the number of servo clock signals (b) with the starting point of an index signal (a) into a defective position storage circuit 2, and when the signal (a) becomes active, a defect commencing position signal (e) for the starting position of a first defective part and a defect ending position signal (g) for the ending position are outputted accordingly. Since then, when a write signal (c) becomes active, a position signal (d) is compared with signals (e) and (g) in their values by a comparator circuit 3, and then when the value of the position signal (d) becomes equivalent to the value of the signal (e), a data interruption signal (f) is made to be active, and when the value of the position signal (d) is equivalent to that of the signal (g), the signal (f) is made to be inactive. Transmission of data for write is interrupted by a host circuit while the signal (f) is active, and after the signal (f) is turned into inactive, the transmission of the data for write is resumed from the interrupted position.
