Polyvalent cations having a valence of greater than or equal to 2, e.g., Fe (III), which interfere in the conventional quantitive analysis for polyacrylic acid scale-inhibitors, are removed by treatment wlth a cationic exchange resin prior to conventional analysis for polyacrylic acid.
