PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a high quality of a polished surface, in a device for polishing a work such as, for example, a stylus, by moving the work in parallel with the axis of a rotary cylindrical body coated with an abrasive material while the work is press-contacted to the rotary cylinder body, and by correcting the surface of the cylindrical body due to movement of a cutter feed bed. CONSTITUTION:A rod 23 holding works 24 at its end is attached to a rotatable work holder 28 on a work feed bed 25, and is press-contacted, at a predetermined pressure, to the rotary cylindrical body 16 having its outer surface to which an abrasive material 17 is coated or embedded, by means of a spring 32. Then, by rotating the rotary cylindrical body 16 the works 24 are polished while the feed bed 25 is accurately moved in parallel with the axis of the cylindrical body 16. Thus, a high quality of the polished surface of each work 24 may be obtained at a high rate since the peripheral speed of the cylindrical body is constant during polishing and a polishing locus is maintained on the same circumferential locus. Further, even if the outer surface of the rotary cylindrical body deteriorates, a cutter feed bed 42 to which a suitable cutting is made, is moved so that the outer surface of the cylindrical body is corrected by a cutting tool 41. |
