摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a ceramics-reinforced metallic composite material in which tensile strength and ductility are improved and cracking at the time of working is inhibited, by adding silver-coated ceramics grains to a metallic base material to carry out reinforcing. CONSTITUTION:The grains of ceramics, such as SiC, Si3N4, and Al2O3, are added to a metallic base material or Al, Fe, Ni, etc., to reinforce the above base material, by which a ceramics-reinforced metallic composite material is obtained. In the above material, the above ceramics grains are previously coated with silver. The above-mentioned silver coating is carried out, e.g., by charging ceramics grains into an ammonia solution of silver nitrate and further adding a reducing organic compound, such as formaldehyde, so as to reduce silver ions. By this method, respective surface of the ceramics grains are smoothed and wettability to the metal is improved and, as a result, joining strength at the interface is improved. The resulting composite material has high strength and high ductility, and the occurrence of cracks at the time of working, such as bending, can be avoided.
