PURPOSE:To obtain an output picture in which an original is accurately reproduced by correcting a solid state image pickup element through the use of a flat shading correction white board in which the characteristic of a reflection factor is almost flat for a prescribed visible light area. CONSTITUTION:An exposure light source unit 40 which stands by a home position HP irradiates the shading correction white board 70a and image-forms a white reference image on the solid state image pickup element in the image pickup unit 20. The solid state image pickup element is corrected so that a white signal from the correction white board 70a is turned into a white reference signal at the time of original reading. Here, the solid state image pickup element is corrected with using the shading correction white board in which the characteristic of the reflection factor is almost flat in the range of the visible wavelength light areas 400-700nm. Thus, the output picture in which the original is accurately be reproduced can be obtained.
