PURPOSE:To obtain a ferrous sintered alloy excellent in resistance to heat and wear, by using a powdered austenitic stainless steel as a base material, by adding a powdered boron-containing alloy prepared by adding B to the above stainless steel to the above, and by subjecting the resulting mixture to compacting and sintering. CONSTITUTION:A powdered austenitic stainless steel to which 2-3% B is further added is blended by 20-60% with the powdered austenitic stainless steel so as to be formed into a powder mixture having a chemical composition consisting of, by weight, <0.05% C, 16-18% Cr, 12-15% Ni, 2-3% Mo, 0.4-1.8% B, and the balance Fe. Then, zinc stearate as a compaction lubricant is mixed with the above powder mixture by 0.8%, which is compacted into the desired shape and sintered in vacuum at 1,180 deg.C. By this method, the ferrous sintered alloy composed principally of Cr boride, having a structure in which a phase of the borides of Fe, Mo, and Ni is dispersedly precipitated in a spotted state in 15-45% of a matrix of the sintered compact except pores, excellent in resistance to heat and wear, and scarcely causing wear to mating materials can be obtained.
