PURPOSE:To easily assemble the universal joint at a low cost by forming each shaft from a pair of half members, and forming at opposed surfaces of a pair of yokes frustoconical joint portions each having a phantom apex angle of 90 deg. with a common apex and having an arcuate surface formed by a circumferential surface of a phantom circular cylinder having a diameter equal to that of a sphere. CONSTITUTION:A first shaft 2a is formed from a pair of axially divided half members 2a1 and 2a2, and a second shaft 2b is also formed similarly. A pair of yokes 1 of the first shaft 2a are formed at their opposed surfaces with a pair of frustoconical joint portions 3. Each joint portion 3 has a phantom apex angle of about 90 deg. with a common apex a. A pair of opposed arcuate surfaces 4 of the joint portions 3 have a common center axis extending at right angles to the axes of the shafts 2a and 2b, and are formed by a part of a circumferential surface of a phantom circular cylinder b having a diameter equal to that of a sphere 5. Accordingly, the universal joint may be easily assembled by setting a joint angle of both the shafts 2a and 2b with a relatively rough tolerance. Thus, the mass productivity may be improved at a low cost. |
