PURPOSE:To obtain a large light quantity and an even light-emitting quantity along the whole length of a discharging tube by providing plural electrodes on which a high frequency electromagnetic field is impressed in a prescribed direction and at prescribed intervals and setting the intervals of the electrodes in the prescribed direction shorter than the lengths of the electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Plural coil like electrodes 2 on which a high frequency impressing means 3 impresses the high frequency electromagnetic field are arranged along the lengthwise direction of the discharging tube 1. The interedge parts of respective coil like electrodes 2 are arranged with distances d1, d2 and d3. The distances of the coil like electrodes 2 d1-d3 are respectively set shorter than a length 'l' along the direction of the arrangement of the coil like electrodes 2 (the lengthwise direction of the discharging tube). Thus, the deterioration of the light-emitting light quantity of interelectrode is controlled and the even light emitting light quantity can be obtained for the whole length of the discharging tube. Thus, the large light quantity and the even light-emitting light quantity can be obtained for the whole length of the discharging tube.
