The invention relates to an optical unit for a motor vehicle, comprising a casing 10 closed by a glass 18, at least one light source 12a, 12b located in the internal space of the optical unit and capable of creating a lighting or signalling beam, and means 11, 11' for ventilating the internal space of the optical unit, the glass comprising a first zone 181 passed through by the beam or beams and a second zone 182 not passed through by the beam or beams, the optical unit comprising an element in the form of a plate 20c situated at the rear of the said second zone of the glass. According to the invention, the element in the form of a plate is situated at a distance from the glass such that they delimit together a thin layer of air essentially unexposed to the action of the ventilation means and stationary, and heating means are mounted at the rear of the said element 20c in order to bring the entire expanse of the outer surface of the latter, as well as the entire expanse of the internal surface facing the second zone of the glass through the thin layer of air, to an essentially uniform temperature, preventing condensation on the said surfaces. <IMAGE>
