A stone sawing machine comprises a number of saw blades mounted in a horizontally reciprocable frame, each blade having two sets of teeth, one engaging the work when the frame moves in one direction and the other when the frame moves in the opposite direction, the frame being rackable between two stops about an axis transversely of the blades and half way between the end members of the frame and means being provided to rock the frame at the end of each stroke which is of such length that the teeth are moved out of contact with the work at the end of the stroke. As shown, a number of saw blades 1 are mounted in a reciprocable frame having end members 2, 3 and side members 4, the side members being pivoted at 5 in a rectangular supporting frame. Each blade is provided with two sets of teeth 17, 18 and 17<SP>1</SP>, 18<SP>1</SP> each set comprising two teeth so disposed that when the frame is in the full line position the teeth 171, 18<SP>1</SP> engage the work and when in the position shown in chain-dotted line the teeth 17, 18 engage the work. The length of stroke is such that the teeth are all free of the work at the end of the stroke, at which time the position of the frame is changed by means of hydraulic jacks 14, 15 arranged at either end of the frame. The work may be mounted on a platform 21 supported by hydraulic jacks 22 so that the work may be raised into contact with the blades.</p> |
