An N ring element ring oscillator merged with an M element ring oscillator by using a lineear combining circuit. By adjusting the control voltage, the oscillation frequency can be varied from 1/2*N*Td (where Td is a gate delay) to 1/2*M*Td. Other embodiments provide extended frequency tuning range.
