PURPOSE:To improve the horizontal resolution by using a 1st color difference signal generating means when an object light including a spatial frequency in the direction of horizontal line is not made incident and using a 2nd color difference signal generating means when an object light including a spatial frequency in the direction of horizontal line is made incident so as to obtain a synthesized video signal thereby suppressing the production of a false color signal. CONSTITUTION:When a frequency signal corresponding to a picture element pitch in the direction of horizontal line is not included in a picture element signal of a horizontal line, no switching signal is fed to changeover switches 10, 12. Then R-GA, B-GB and Y signals obtained from the picture element signal of the horizontal line are fed to an encoder 16 and an NTSC signal is obtained at an output terminal 18. On the other hand, when the said frequency is included in the picture element signal of the horizontal line, since the R-GA, B-GB and Y signals obtained from the picture element signal of the vertical line are fed to the encoder 16, the NTSC signal is obtained from the output terminal 18. Thus, the input band width of an optical LPF is expanded and the horizontal resolution is improved by the expanded width.
