PURPOSE:To prevent a vertical chrominance error from being generated even at a part with a small vertical correlation by adding a chrominance signal separated from an output signal of an image pickup element separated by 2 ways through the use of vertical correlation in picking up an achromatic object through weighting so as to form the chrominance signal. CONSTITUTION:A mosaic color filter 1 consists of white W, green G, cyan Cy and yellow Ye color elements. Two chrominance signal generating means are provided, a color separation circuit 4 of a 1st chrominance signal generating means applies the calculation of W-Cy, and a color separation circuit 5 applies the calculation of Ye-G. A color separation circuit 6 of a 2nd chrominance signal generating means applies the calculation of Cy-G, and a color separation circuit 7 applies the calculation of W-Ye. A coefficient computing element 8 decides coefficients k1, k2 in a relation of k1XCy=k2XYe. Then color signals W-Cy, Ye-G, Cy-G and W-Ye separated by using the vertical correlation are weighted by using the coefficients k1, k2 to add them respectively. Thus, the vertical chrominance error of signals R, B is eliminated.
