This invention relates to a cyclic system for the recovery of an enriched oxygen effluent product by the vacuum swing adsorption of nitrogen from an ambient air feed stream. The ambient air previously freed of contained water and CO2 is passed through a bed of solid adsorbent retaining nitrogen, and the resulting oxygeneenriched effulent is collected in a receiver. The resulting nitrogene-loaded adsorbent is desorbed by the application of a vacuum, and the duration of the air feed step is automatically controlled by monitoring the inventory of oxygen-enriched gas in the receiver.
