Material webs for producing folding packaging materials must be absolutely flat in order to make from them blanks (10) for folding boxes. Furthermore, punched indentations for folding lines of the blank (10) must be carried out in such a way that the foam material does not break along the folding lines when the blank (10) is folded. Known methods of the type discussed here have the disadvantage that the foam has to be heated up again in order that it can be rolled flat and embossed. The method according to the invention is intended to make this unnecessary. In order to make the subsequent heating of the material web (11) unnecessary, according to the invention the still "fresh" material web (11) is embossed. A flat material web (11) is produced by the permanent bonding of two contrarily curved web halves (18 and 19). The invention can be used wherever flat material webs (11) of foam plastic are to be produced or are to be provided with bending or folding lines (19).
