PURPOSE:To obtain heat insulating material at low cost near as lime for industry by burning a coral on reef having the specific apparent density under condition of remaining original porous structure to form light lime of the specific apparent density and rough crushing and grading to the specific grain size. CONSTITUTION:The heat insulating material for steel making and casting is composed of the granule, while the coral on the reef having 1.3-1.8g/cm<3> the apparent density is burnt under condition of remaining the original porous structure to form the light lime having 0.80-0.95g/cm<3> the apparent density and this light lime is roughly crushed and graded to 2-50mm the grain size. By this method, this material is composed of the one roughly crushing and grading the light lime by burning the coral on the reef as natural resource and has no carbon and extremely a little quantity of SiO2 and moisture, and as wet type granulation process is not necessary, it is obtd. at low cost near as the lime for industry.
