PURPOSE:To save communication cost by designating an area in a page for original picture information and sending only the picture information within the area together with a position data indicating the reproducing position of the picture information thereby omitting the transmission of important picture information part other than the area. CONSTITUTION:When the operator sends only the required part of the original set to a facsimile equipment 1 and the layout of the prescribed part is changed to a different location, a picture edit section 8 designates an area surrounded by the edit coordinate for the prescribed part. When all areas are stored in a memory 4 by a system control section 5, the stored picture information is read, transferred to a data compression/reproducing section 6, where the data is compressed. Then the position data of edit coordinate and area width is sent together with the picture information subjected to data compression. That is, the transmission unit is not the page unit but the designated area unit, and the unnecessary data other than the area or space data is not sent. Thus, the total number of transmission data is decreased, the communication time is reduced to save the communication cost.
