PURPOSE:To eliminate the influence of grooves for tracking servo at the time of reproduction and to enable reproduction with a CD player by providing the grooves on the face on the side opposite to a recording layer. CONSTITUTION:After a transparent layer 3 and the recording layer 1 are formed on a transparent substrate 2, signals are written from an external information source to the prescribed place of the recording layer 1 through the substrate 2 to form pit arrays 11 thereon by using a laser pickup 21 for recording while the tracking servo is applied thereto by a laser pickup 22 for tracking servo utilizing the grooves 15 for tracking servo. A reflecting layer 5 is formed on the recording layer 1 after the information is recorded on the recording layer. The entire part of the recording layer 1 is thereafter faded, by which the recording layer is changed to the transparent layer 1' which has no specific absorption. In addition, only the deformations corresponding to the written information exist on the transparent layer and there are no grooves for tracking servo which increase the amplitude of a tracking error signal. The reproduction with the commercially marketed CD player is thereby enabled.
