PURPOSE:To attain excellent reproduction of a disk by providing a display section displaying depending on the lighted number of plural display elements and displaying the number of detected programs and the number corresponding to a chapter number switchingly. CONSTITUTION:A display section 5 is provided, which applies the display by lighting plural display elements. At the time of starting the reproduction f a disk 11 of the 1st format, signals corresponding to all programs are reproduced and the state of the program is detected and at least a readout signal is searched at the start of reproduction of the disk 21 of a 2nd format to detect the state of a chapter reproduced from the chapter number of the part. Then the state of the detected program and the state of the chapter are displayed switchingly on the display section 5. Thus, in even a disk of the 2nd format such as a video disk, the state of the chapter is displayed and the disk is reproduced excellently.
