PURPOSE:To enable a pure red light to be emmissioned by enclosing mercury, natrium halogen configured of composition in a specified range and a starting rare gas into an emmission tube, and constantly retaining the coldest point temperature of the emission tube wall when lighting a discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION:With mercury quantity of NHg gram atom/cm<3>, natrium quantity of NNa gram atom/cm<3>, halogen quantity of Nx gram atom/cm<3> for inner volume of an emission tube, mercury, natrium halogen configured of composition in a range of 3.0X10<-5=NHg<=5.5X10<-5>, 1.6X0<-6=NAn<=7.1X10<-6>, NNa<=NX<=NNa+8X10<-7> and a starting rare gas are enclosed into an emission tube, and a coldest point temperature of the emission tube wall is retained at 730 deg.C-830 deg.C. This enables emission of a red light having good color purity to be obtained. |
