PURPOSE:To attain the improved reliability and low cost by forming a locking hole provided to a torque delivery means drive member linked to a shaft of a drive motor or to the shaft itself and a lock means to a location to be projection or escape to/from the locking hole. CONSTITUTION:The locking is released while a power is applied to a magnetic disk device in the lock solenoid 32 and the carriage is freely driven. When the power is interrupted, a counter electromotive force till the spindle motor comes to a halt is utilized to move the carriage to the innermost circumference and the lock solenoid 32 is supported for a prescribed time, after a prescribed time elapses, that is, after the carriage is moved to the innermost circumference, the holding of the lock solenoid 32 is released to insert the plunger 33 of the lock solenoid 32 to the hole 22a of the capstan 22. Thus, the lock of the entire carriage is finished and the economical mechanism with high reliability is realized.
