PURPOSE:To attain accurate positioning of a magnetic head regardless of thermal expansion/contraction of a carriage by setting a position of a magnetic head and an engagement position of a needle to a screw so as to be arranged nearly in a line orthogonal to the shift direction of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A head carriage 10 is freely supported turnably and moved while being guided actually by a lead screw 20 with a screw part formed to a prescribed position. The needle 22 engaging with lows of the screw 21 and the magnetic head 18 for recording/reproduction are provided and the engagement position of the needle 22 with respect to the screw 21 and the position of the magnetic head 18 are arranged on nearly a line orthogonal to the moving direction of the magnetic head 18. Even when the head carriage 10 is thermally expanded or contracted due to the ambient temperature change, the magnetic head 18 in the axial direction of the lead screw 20 is always nearly in the same position with the engagement position of the needle. Thus, the magnetic head is always accurately positioned.
