In metal (esp. iron) prodn. from oxidic minerals of any granulometry (0-20 cm) by smelting in a carrier bath different from the final product bath and then refining with a reductant (pref. carbon) by direct or indirect redn., the novelty is that pre-redn. and direct redn. occur independently of the mineral granulometry in a through-furnace filled with a catalyst bath which is not the same as the liq. final prod. bath.
