PURPOSE:To attain high speed error check and correction by applying a 1st error detection by an error check code only and using an error correction code for the first time when an error is detected and using the error check code again for error correction. CONSTITUTION:An error correction code and an error check code are given to a data in a sector to discriminate the presence of an error by an error check code. In the presence of an error, the correction processing by the error correction code is started and in the absence of an error, the data is regarded instantly normally, even if an error exists in the parity part of the error correction code, and when an error does not exists in the data part, error correction processing is not applied. Thus, high speed processing is attained.
