PURPOSE:To ensure the recording or reproduction of an analog and a digital picture information signal by sharing a recording or reproducing head for analog picture information signal for a recording or reproducing head of a digital picture information signal. CONSTITUTION:Heads H-1-H-5 arranged at an interval of 90 deg. in a rotary head cylinder 12 have an azimuth angle. The heads H-4, H-2 are inverse azimuth heads opposed by 180 deg. to each other and are used to record/reproduce a conventional analog signal or to record/reproduce a digital signal as a mode. Thus, the recording or reproducing device is obtained, which can record the analog or digital picture information signal onto the recording medium or reproduce the analog or digital picture information signal recorded on the recording medium.
