PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time for a diagnosis of a function and an initialization immediately after a power source is applied, etc., by adding a control function for the self-diagnosis and the initialization, to the inside of a memory device. CONSTITUTION:A memory device control circuit 18 sets prescribed information for a self-diagnosis and an initialization, and an address of a write destination to a write register 41, and an address register 31, respectively, and thereafter, outputs a write signal onto a read/write signal line R/W, by which the informa tion of the self-diagnosis and the initialization, which is being held is written simultaneously to all memory elements 61-6n. Subsequently, a read command is outputted, the information for the self-diagnosis and the initialization written immediately before from all the memory elements 61-6n is read out simultane ously, passes through a signal line group 82 and held in a diagnostic register 83 in the memory controller 18. The memory controller 18 diagnoses the normal ity of a function of a memory element group by collating these information. In such a way, the processing time for the diagnosis of a function of a storage circuit 16 and the initialization is shortened remarkably.
