PURPOSE:To decrease coefft. of friction and to improve traveling stability by incorporating or impregnating a lubricating agent consisting of a perfluoroalkyl compd. and higher aliphat. compd. into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating agent prepd. by mixing at least one kind of the perfluoroalkyl compd. selected from perfluoroalkyl alcohol, perfluoroalkyl acid and perfluoroalkyl ester having an effect of decreasing the coefft. of friction and at least one kind of the higher aliphat. compd. selected from higher fatty acid, higher fatty acid alcohol, and higher fatty acid ester having an effect of maintaining a lubricating performance over a long period of time is added or impregnated into the magnetic layer. The magnetic recording medium of the coating type having the small coefft. of friction, the good traveling property, excellent durability and high reliability is thereby obtd.
