POLYSULFONE COPOLYMER AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled novel copolymer moldable by precision molding because of extremely high melt fluidity in molding and having excellent transparency, etc., by introducing diphenyl sulfone into a main chain of a polysulfone copolymer using a specific method. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer containing the recurring units of formula IV and formula V and having a molar fraction of the unit IV of 1-80% can be produced by reacting a-mol. of a compound of formula I (M is alkali metal) with b-mol. of a compound of formula II (X is F, Cl or Br; average of n is 1-4; R is alicyclic bivalent alcohol residue) and c-mol. of a compound of formula III under a condition satisfying the formula 0.95<=a/(b+c)<=1.05. The compound of formula II is produced e.g. by reacting a compound of formula MO-R-OM with the compound of formula III such as 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone.
