PURPOSE:To less decrease the temperature reliance of a friction coefficient, by constituting a friction material of specific wt.% carbon fiber of specific nitrogen content, auxiliary material and thermo-setting resin, in case of the non-asbestos friction material for a vehicle or the like. CONSTITUTION:A friction material is pressurized being molded by 0.5-30wt.% carbon fiber carbonized from acrylic system fiber having 14-21wt.% nitrogen content, auxiliary material of alamide fiber, steel fiber or the like or calcium carbonate and thermo-setting resin of phenol or the like. In this way, the friction material is obtained in density about 1.4 or more, tensile strength 3-35g/d, tensile elastic modulus about 200-1,300g/d further having insulating performance and low heat conductivity. Thus small and stable temperature reliance of a friction coefficient and an excellent power transmitting and braking function can be obtained.
