PURPOSE:To obtain 2-cyclohexylhydroquinone useful as a raw material for liquid crystal polymers in high yield, industrially and extremely readily, by reacting hydroquinone with cyclohexyl alcohol in the presence of a mineral acid. CONSTITUTION:Hydroquinone is reacted with 0.5-100mol.%, preferably 0.5-50mol.% based on the compound of cyclohexyl alcohol in the presence of a mineral acid such as phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid or nitric acid, especially 50-95% aqueous solution of phosphoric acid at 40-170 deg.C, especially 70-120 deg.C to give 2-cyclohexylhydroquinone industrially and advantageously. The ratio of the mineral acid and hydroquinone used is set to make the value shown by the formula 0.5-50wt.%. |
