PURPOSE:To obtain a large amount of fine nitride in high yield, in high heat efficiency and stably, by feeding a raw material consisting of metallic oxide powder and a carbonaceous substance from the top of a reactor, dropping the raw material through a preheating zone to a heating zone, nitriding the raw material in a fluidized state under heating and discharging through a cooling zone from the bottom part. CONSTITUTION:A raw material having 20mu-3mm consisting of (A) metallic oxide powder (e.g. SiO2) having <=1,000mum average particle diameter corresponding to the aimed nitride and (B) 100-250 (calculated as carbon) theoretical blended amount of a carbonaceous substance such as carbon powder having 0.02-40mu average particle diameter or organic high polymer compound having >=30% carbon yield is fed from the top of a reactor. Then first the raw material is dropped by empty weight in a preheating zone, preheated, sent to a heating zone, the raw material is fluidized by a fluidizing gas containing a nitriding gas introduced from a nitriding gas inlet, heated for 10-300min retention time at a desired temperature to form a nitride (e.g. Si3N4), which is dropped to a cooling zone, cooled in a nonoxidizing atmosphere and discharged from the bottom of the reactor.
